Road to Kids Biennale Indonesia 2025 Exhibition “Speak Up 2: On Bullying & Intolerance”

In 2024, Kids Biennale Indonesia raised the theme “Speak Up 2: On Bullying & Intolerance”, focusing on bullying and intolerance experienced by children and teenagers, particularly those with special needs, disabilities, and neurodivergence. This theme also aligns with discussions on the three major issues in education: sexual violence, bullying, and intolerance.

The exhibition aims to create a space for children from diverse backgrounds to express their voices on often-overlooked social issues while raising awareness about the importance of embracing differences and diversity. Through this theme, KBI hopes to spark dialogue and promote positive change in how we understand and address bullying and intolerance among children and teenagers.

The exhibition features 54 artworks created by children and teenagers with special needs, disabilities, and neurodivergence, selected through a curation process involving participating schools and an open call submission. A special collaboration with the artist Dwitunggal further enriches the artistic expressions presented. The exhibition runs from July 21 to August 10, 2024.

Press Conference

To kick off the event series, KBI hosted a press conference featuring key speakers, including Ir. FB. Didiek Santosa from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Cornelia Agatha from the National Commission on Human Rights for Child Protection, and Gie Sanjaya, the Chairperson of the Kids Biennale Indonesia Foundation and Exhibition Curator. Exhibition 'Speak Up' 2023: Addressing Sexual Violence Against Children and Teenagers

In 2023, Kids Biennale Indonesia presented the theme 'Speak Up,' an exhibition highlighting the issue of sexual violence against children and teenagers. From 187 proposals submitted through an open call, 55 works were curated by exhibition curator Gie Sanjaya, showcasing the perspectives and experiences of children and teenagers aged 12–17. These works, in the form of paintings, poetry, and collages, reflect their thoughts and emotions about the issue.

As part of the exhibition, we featured the interactive installation 'Bilik Aman,' where visitors aged 15 and above could anonymously listen to stories from survivors of sexual violence and share their reflections in writing.

The exhibition was officially opened on July 22, 2023, by Irini Dewi Wanti, S.S., M.SP. (Director of Cultural Development and Utilization, Ministry of Education and Culture) and Dolorosa Sinaga (Master Sculptor and Activist). The opening event also showcased works by Prajna Dewantara and Nova Eliza, featuring testimonies in 'Voices of Women.' During the opening, visitors participated in a symbolic movement by imprinting their handprints on Prajna Dewantara’s artwork as an act of solidarity and resistance against sexual violence toward children and teenagers.
